Today’s fact is really interesting and shows the golden past of Ahmedabad.

Ahmedabad was called “Manchester of India”
Ahmedabad had become textile hub and was producing really good material for clothes, this was the reason it was called “Manchester of India”. In the year 1861 Ranchhodlal Chhotalal established his first textile mill called Shahpur mill and then there was no looking back. After the establishment of Shahpur mill, many other entrepreneurs like Maganbhai, Amabalal Sarabhai, Kasturbhai Lalbhai started their textile mills. As you know, the entrepreneurship runs in every Gujarat’s blood, the mill owners proved that correct.
After the establishment of many textile mills, Ahmedabad had become center for commercial and industrial houses. There were about 33 textile mills in Ahmedabad in the year 1905. Slowly and steadily textile industry boomed like anything. The title as “Manchester of India” was given to Ahmedabad by major industrialists Ambalal Sarabhai and Kasturbhai Lalbhai.
Today Ahmedabad is one of the fastest growing cities of India. It has been mentioned by Forbes magazine as one of the best cities to live in the world. Apart from textile industry, many other businesses have flourished from here. Dhirubhai Ambani (Reliance), Karsanbhai Patel (Nirma), Gautambhai Adani (Adani) are few of the names of some of the biggest industrialists of India who are or were based in Gujarat.
